What is CSR?
CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) is the initiative to build branding, confidence and value among all stakeholders through continuous, beneficial interactions with community and environment. As a corporate competence, it looks beyond the dollars and cents to link social, economic and environmental factors into a distinct competitive edge. Premium companies like CapitaLand, McDonald’s and Starbucks have consistently and successfully leveraged on CSR to enhance their businesses.
NUS MBA Social Impact Club was launched in 2008 by a group of CSR enthusiasts. The club's focus is to leverage on the unique capabilities of the student community at NUS MBA to build a strong network between students and corporates to increase opportunities and awareness about utilizing business skills to bring forth net positive social change. The objective of SIC in this batch is:
SUSTAINABLE. ETHICAL. REWARDING
HELP HAITI
The NUS MBA Social Impact Club worked with NUS's Center for Social Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy (CSEP) and with the Utiba organisation to get this link available so that NUS students and faculty can contribute - every dollar helps bring urgent food to those most in need in Haiti after the devastating earthquake. Working with Utiba and the UN's World Food Program, a large percentage of every dollar donated goes straight to Haiti in the form of urgent food supplies, with very little waste on administration or other expenses. Special thanks go to Professor Bob Fleming of the Business School for initiating this and for liaising with Utiba, and to Eddy Chong of the CSEP for spreading the word and enlisting student groups.
