Corporate Visit to Siloso Beach Resort (19 Feb 2011)

The first day of the recess week in this semester starts with a corporate visit to Siloso Beach Resort in sentosa.  Siloso Beach resort is a famous eco hotel in Singapore. It was built on a small mountain in the Sentosa. Aiming to protect all the trees during the construction process, the hotel makes use of its natural environment and turns it into a business advantage. This visit includes a 1 hour walking tour around the resort and a short presentation. 22 students signed up for the event.

Social Innovation and Enterprise Talk (25 Jan 2011)

This is the first event held by NUS MBA SIC team, batch 2010-2011. Many MBA students misunderstand that CSR is about charity. We want to change the perception of CSR among MBA students by holding this event. We want to tell our classmates that CSR is much more than charity.

We invite two speakers. Tony Meloto, founder and chairman of Gawad Kalinga (GK) and Professor Albert Teo, Director, Centre for NUS Social Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy.

Major Events held by MBA SIC team (batch 2009-2010)

Philippines CSR Trip (4 - 9 May 2010)

Rich. Poor. Haves. Have not. How thick is the line separating them? How long and broad is the bridge required to link them? Who can be the bridge between the two distinct groups of people? What has been done by the different groups – private and public to help the poor? How successful has these programs been? What more can be done to eliminate poverty?

Our visit to the Philippines which took place from 4th May – 9th May 2010 gave light to some of these issues. In particular, we saw how the different actors, playing different roles, all for one common cause – eliminating poverty and alleviating the lives of the poorest poor in the Philippines.

Unveiling of SIC Logo (22 Apr 2009)

The SIC logo was unveiled by Mr. Eddy Chong of CSEP and Mr Caleb Chew Kok Ann, Manager, the NUS Business school office.

The logo has the 3 letters S, I and C in a almost calligraphic formation with a flame on the top. It resembles a Chinese character that means “water” and it also resembles a character that means “forever”.

It resembles a human form as well and incorporates the tag-line: “Ignite the Flame of change..” which very aptly conveys the objectives of the club. The logo was designed by Pavithra and Vikram with creative inputs from the entire team (Kathrin, Ram and Vivian).
